The dissertation presents a comprehensive archaeological analysis of the Palaeolithic site of Szécsénke–Kis-Ferenc-hegy in the Cserhát Mountains, Northern Hungary. The research focuses on the technological, typological, raw material, spatial and taphonomic characteristics of the lithic assemblages and evaluates the site within the broader context of Central European bifacial and leaf-point industries. The results prove that the surface and near-surface finds represent a technologically and typologically heterogeneous palimpsest, whereas the deeper archaeological horizon excavated between 2015 and 2018 constitutes a substantially more coherent assemblage. Its lithic technology is predominantly flake-oriented and characterised by the intensive use of local limnoquartzite (or, limnic silicite) and by the on-site production, thinning and reshaping of bifacial tools. The excavated archaeological horizon is interpreted as part of a multifunctional occupation rather than a specialised workshop. OSL dates place the assemblage within the chronological range of the Late Middle Palaeolithic and the transition towards the Early Upper Palaeolithic. Regional comparisons indicate that Szécsénke cannot be assigned unambiguously to a single traditional cultural category such as the Szeletian. Instead, the site demonstrates the technological and adaptive diversity of Central European leaf-point industries. The study therefore emphasises the combined evaluation of stratigraphic integrity, technology, raw material procurement, spatial organisation and chronology rather than typological classification alone.
