Többnyelvűség, nyelvi diverzitás description: In the case of the smaller Finno-Ugrian languages spoken in the territory of the Russian Federation we can hardly find any larger, extensive scientific work written from a sociopragmatic point of view. One of the biggest aims of this dissertation is to break the ice, and introduce these languages, or at least Udmurt to this research field. In order to reach this goal of mine I chose politeness research. It is not only a popular branch of the sociopragmatic researches, but also something that is important in everyday communication, just think about the fact that we have to choose even at the time of greetings, or in many languages when we conjugate the verb we have to choose whether we speak formally or informally. The target group of my research included the Udmurt, BA level students of the Institute of Udmurt Philology, Finno-Ugric Studies and Journalism of the Udmurt State University. Originally I wanted to include both genders into my research, but the students are dominantly females, and the number of the male students are so low, so the results could not have been considered relevant, so at the end I took only the answers of the female informants into consideration. In my research I examined four speech acts: apology, negative response to a request, response to a compliment and request. Doing a sociopragmatic research I was interested in what kind of strategies or strategy combinations the speakers use to express themselves in these situations. In the case of every speech act I did a quantitative analysis on the answers I got in my DCT questionnaires, examined what were the more common strategies and strategy combinations they used, and the most popular ones are illustrated by examples (with glossary) provided. Also, being similar to each other, I examined whether it is possible to contract the evaluation system of the two strategies, to have a much better overview of their use. I not only listed these strategies and strategy combinations but also provided possible explanations for them, or resolved those situations that could seem contradictory. Also, as Udmurt is a minority language spoken in Russia I was interested in whether the speakers use Russian politeness related expressions in their speech. I even took a step further and in addition to the strategies and strategy combinations I also paid attention to the grammatic structures my informants used. I found two structures, the use of which are specific in the case of Udmurt language: the second past form (that has an evidential meaning) and the way they soften an order to a request by using an auxiliary verb, although that meaning the auxiliary is not related to politeness by any means. This dissertation shows the Udmurt language from a point of view from which it has not been seen before and lays down a good foundation for further research of a similar manner done either on Udmurt language or other Finno-Ugrian languages spoken in Russia. There are many possibilities to do further research: examining the language use of similar-age men and comparing the results, examining other age groups, expanding the research to other speech acts as well, or examining the online language use on the social media sites. I have already continued my research in the frame of a New National Excellence Program scholarship. In that research I do first-order politeness research meaning, that I include native speakers into my research to understand better what is considered polite in their language. date: 2021-06-18 type: Disszertáció type: NonPeerReviewed format: application/pdf language: hu identifier: https://doktori.bibl.u-szeged.hu/id/eprint/10781/1/Nemeth_Zoltan_SZTE_NYDI_disszertacio.pdf format: application/pdf language: hu identifier: https://doktori.bibl.u-szeged.hu/id/eprint/10781/2/Nemeth_Zoltan_SZTE_NYDI_tezisfuzet_magyar.pdf format: application/pdf language: en identifier: https://doktori.bibl.u-szeged.hu/id/eprint/10781/3/Nemeth_Zoltan_SZTE_NYDI_tezisfuzet_angol.pdf identifier: Németh Zoltán Udvariasság az udmurt nyelvben: nemleges válaszok, bocsánatkérés, bókra adott válasz és kérés.
